Yandex, Hyundai Mobis make prototype of Sonata self-driving car

MOSCOW, Jul 11 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex and South Korean aftersales parts and accessories supplier Hyundai Mobis have created a prototype of a self-driving car on the basis of new model Hyundai Sonata of the 2020 year, Yandex said on Thursday in a statement.

“The new Sonata is built on an advanced platform designed with active participation of engineers of Mobis, which embedding an autonomous control system into a vehicle possible. It’s an important condition for creation of a reliable and safe self-driving car,” Dmitry Polishchuk, head of Yandex’s self-driving car department, said.

The first autonomous Sonata is completing tests on a closed site and is getting ready to drive the Moscow roads.

“We’ll continue work with other models of a new line of cars of Hyundai and Kia,” Polishchuk said.
